Jen Savage

Jennifer Savage came into the world as a country girl, but was transplanted to Southern California while still impressionable. Elvis Costello's ImPeRiAl BeDrOoM album changed her life early on, and she still remembers being run out of her town's record store after asking for music by The Cure. Jennifer spent the early nineties having babies and slinging cocktails in a punk-grunge-rockabilly-shoegazer-blues club. The math suggests she saw over 1,200 bands during that time – unfortunately, she is estimated to also have imbibed about 1,200 cocktails during the same period, so it's all a bit hazy.
Currently, in addition to raising her brood and arguing with her husband about the historical value of new wave, she works as Scene Editor for Arcata's independent weekly newspaper the Arcata Eye, occasionally reviews music and books for HipMama magazine, and watches for the south winds to turn on.
(Her photo was taken by the fabulous Terrence McNally of Arcata Eye and Sad Wings of Destiny fame).

Jen Savage can be heard on the Slug every weekday from 10:00 a.m. til 2:00 p.m.
