Monica
I fell in love with modern rock music while listening to KRZQ in Northern Nevada in the mid-nineties. I moved to Humboldt County and there was NONE of my music on the radio. Then KSLG happened... yayy!! I'm living proof that you don't actually have to have a degree to do what you want to do in life, but on that note, I am a full-time student at HSU... working toward a... degree.
I am also a proud member of the Slugrockets Scooter Club and honored to have been Rutabaga Queen for the Kinetic Sculpture Race for 2004.
Monica can be heard on the Slug Festivities Guide every day at 8:10am, 12:10pm, and 5:10pm, and also on the weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on KSLG.
If you're into the local music scene (or want to be), check out...:
Here are some CDs Monica thinks you should go out and buy (or at least check out):
First, my beloved local bands...
- Strix Vega - Drunken Sky --The debut album from one of my most favorite bands.
- The Rubberneckers - Political Songs About Drinking --RIP, Rubberneckers.
- Dragged By Horses - Deep In the Woods-- You wanna talk rock? This is where it's at.
- Delta Nationals - All Over The Map --I'm a sucker for the Delta Nationals. This is their new album, the band's first studio recording. The nexus of all things Americana.
And now for the ones that tell you a lot about who I am...
- Green Day Dookie --Seriously... this is where I fell in love with Green Day, almost 15 years ago.
- The Clash - London Calling --or any of their albums really... The Clash are brilliant
- Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - Streetcore --as long as I'm on this Clash kick, you really should check out the last album Joe Strummer made before he died
- Radiohead - OK Computer --Pure brilliance, beginning to end- I love this album
- Operation Ivy - s/t --One of the best scootering albums ever...
- Weezer - s/t (The Blue Album) --It is the responsibility of every older sibling to get their album into their younger siblings' hands.

My favorite music beds come from Vitamin Records.
