You love the ocean, right? Help protect it -- and send 94.1 FM KSLG DJ Jen Savage to the Dominican Republic!

For those who might not know, KSLG DJ Jen Savage (that's me) has chaired the local Humboldt chapter of the Surfrider Foundation since its reconstitution back in 2008. Additionally, Surfrider founder Tom Pratt attended HSU back in the 1980s and his time fighting to save the waves in Shelter Cove undeniably contributed to his creation of the world's foremost "ocean, beaches and waves" protection organization.

The 1991 lawsuit brought against the former Samoa peninsula pulp mills by Surfrider and the EPA is also legendary -- the second-largest Clean Water Act settlement in history at the time. (The mills were found guilty of over 40,000 violations of the Clean Water Act.)

Point being, Surfrider has a long legacy established in Humboldt. Currently, in addition to co-hosting Ocean Night at the Arcata Theatre Lounge and holding regular beach clean-ups, the Humboldt Chapter is an active stakeholder in PG&E's WaveConnect project, is keeping an eye on "beach replenishment" projects aimed at the Samoa peninsula and has an active Rise Above Plastic campaign.

You don't have to surf to belong to Surfrider -- many of our greatest volunteers simply love the beach and want to protect the ocean. Of course, if you do surf, we want you, too!

And right now -- here comes the self-serving part -- if you join Humboldt Surfrider through your favorite surfing KSLG DJ (OK, only surfing KSLG DJ), then I can win a trip to the Dominican Republic! So whether you love the ocean or just want a break from my voice for a couple weeks, it's all around win for both of us. Plus you get some cool schwag!

Go here. Do it now.

Thanks!
