Q: What Is A Podcast?
A: A Podcast is a radio show that's automatically delivered to your computer as an mp3 file. Enjoy it at your convenience, and take it with you if you want.
KHUM's Podcasts are great for people who can't be sitting by a radio all day but still want to hear a particular show or feature. Like a magazine subscription, Itunes will deliver it automatically each time a new epsiode airs. You can can burn it, drop it into your mp3 player, or whatever. You can also save copies of available shows for as long as you like.
Q: Where Can I Get This "Itunes" Of Which You Speak?
A: Get Itunes here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Q: How Is Podcasting Different From Listening Online?
A: Podcasting differs from broadcasting and webcasting in how content is transmitted; instead of a central audio stream, listeners download audio files automatically in MP3 format to their computer so they can listen at any time or place.
Q: Is Podcasting Free?
A: Yes Podcasts are FREE! There is no charge for downloading a Podcast from KHUM. Of course you'll have to supply your own computer, connection, MP3 player, etc.
Q: Do I have to have an iPod?
A: No, Podcasts work on almost all MP3 players, but one is not required. If all you want to do is listen from you laptop or desktop you don't need a portable MP3 player for our Podcasts. You just need Itunes software.
Q: How do I Listen To A Podcast?
A: To begin, download and install podcasting software onto your computer (PC or Mac). We suggest itunes, but there are others "podcatching" programs.
Use the links on this page to subscribe to KSLG Podcasts. The links will take you to your podcatching software, or it will take you an XML link. Copy and paste that link into the &Subscribe To Podcast& portion of your podcatcher.
Q: When I Click The Link, All I Get Is Code.
A: Podcasts use a type of code called XML. If all you see is code, you must use the URL with your desired podcasting software (usually by choosing File/Open and pasting in the URL).
Q: How Do I See All The Past Episodes Of Your Podcasts?
A: Once you susbcribe to a podcast the most recent episode will be downloaded to your computer. However, since podcasting is a subscription service, all of the past episodes will be available for download. Since only the most recent one auto-delivers, in Itunes, click &Get&.
Q: In Itunes, All I See Is The Most Recent Episode, But I Want an Older Show.
A: Click the arrow next to the podcast, which is pointing to the right. Click that arrow, the arrow will rotate so it is pointing down, and all the past episodes will be displayed. Click &get& on any other shows you want.
Q: Can I Podcast A Music Show, Like Slug Rock?
A: Not yet. At present, copyright law prevents us from podcasting copyrighted content without specific permission.
